Design for Living provides structured, trauma-informed supported accommodation for women who need a safe space to stabilise, recover, and rebuild their lives. Our programme is designed to support women through a clear journey from crisis to independence.
Women can be referred to Design for Living by services such as probation, local authorities, support organisations, or other professionals. Each referral is carefully reviewed to ensure the service is the right fit and that we can provide the appropriate level of support.
Once accepted, we carry out an initial assessment to understand the woman’s needs, strengths, and goals. This includes exploring areas such as wellbeing, housing history, recovery needs, life skills, and future aspirations.
This helps us create a personalised care and support plan tailored to each individual.
The first stage focuses on helping women settle into a safe and supportive environment. During this time we prioritise:
This stage helps create the stability needed for long-term progress.

Care plans are reviewed regularly with residents to celebrate progress, adjust goals, and respond to changing needs. This ensures women remain actively involved in shaping their recovery journey.
As women move towards the end of their placement, care plans focus on:
Our aim is that every woman leaves safer, stronger, and equipped for a more independent future.

The week begins with individual keywork sessions where residents meet with their support worker to review progress, identify challenges, and set goals for the week ahead.
This helps maintain focus and ensures each woman receives personalised guidance.
Support focuses on physical and emotional wellbeing. This may include:
